My best tips and tricks on how to travel comfortably with chronic illness/pain
Traveling is a daunting task for anyone struggling with health problems. Whether its by car or by air, traveling presents a unique set of challenges. Here's a few tips to help make the process a bit easier.
Plan. Plan. Plan: Prepare yourself well in advance for your trip. The more lists you make the better. You want to be sure you have all items available to you should something flare up.
Hydrate: Water is your friend. The hustle and bustle of traveling be it in an airport or by car can leave us dehydrated and drinking less than normal. It is important to try and drink as much as possible to prevent headaches and migraines.
Medication: Bring it all. If you could ever need it, bring it. You don't want to be left stranded with no options. Also be sure to have it with you at all times, don't put medication in a checked bag in the chance that it could get lost.
Snacks: Airports are sometimes sorely lacking in their food options. It can never hurt to bring along a few of your own snacks to ensure you don't go hungry and subsequently get a migraine. The same goes for road trips, pack a bag of snacks in the car for quick options.
Sleep: Try and stick to your sleep schedule as close as possible. Lack of sleep is a very common trigger.
Relax: Stressing out won't make you feel any better or change anything. In fact it will probably just make you feel worse. Take it all as it comes and try not to let it get you.
